Kiyo's interest in arts and crafts began while growing up in Colorado. Her family lived near a Native American trading post. The availability of fine blankets, silver-work, beadwork, and ceremonial crafts was an influence that gave her a positive direction.
Kiyo participated in a unique exchange program, where she lived and attended school on the Navajo Reservation. She was exposed to weavers and silversmiths and began developing her own designs and interest in crafting jewelry.
After high school, she continued courses in studio arts, metal smithing, and expanded her technique to include silver engraving.
Her business began while living on a remote cow camp east of St. David, Arizona known to locals and old-timers as "Horsecamp". Fittingly, she named her studio, Horsecamp Design Studio.
Kiyo has also been involved in the performance horse and livestock industry which serves as an inspiration for may of her designs Currently, she enjoys training and competing in barrel racing.
She sells her jewelry and customized horse tack and buckles at horse venues as well as from this website.
